Baking soda is slightly basic and cheap. Although as you know from 3rd grade science mixing sodium bicarbonate with a certain type of acid (namely acetic acid) you get another reaction. That's the old baking soda and vinegar trick.

Baking soda with have a ph rating in the Base range to help neutralize an acid.
