I'm 52 years old and have been working since I was 16 years old. I have always showed up for work fifteen minutes early as I do for any appointment, or personal engagement. People that show up for work late have little respect for themselves. Keep showing up when you do and ignore those idiots. They might be afraid you showing up on time will bring attention to their negligence.

Maybe they are being facitious. I worked at a place where if the workers weren't there 20-30 minutes early the boss had a cow. It was a casual jam session about what is going on where and who had what problems with what over coffee and sometimes donuts. The old pros were there, but the young bucks weren't--which was the problem, the younger guys had more to learn from the prework sessions so it was a benefit to them even if they weren't on the clock.
Maybe bosses get antsy because you haven't really had time to get yourself in a proper frame of reference, they hoped that "you'd hit the ground running" when the bell rang, like a good horse in a race, instead of just getting to the gate when the race started.
Frankly, I like jobs that don't require great punctuality because I'm chronologically-challenged. I may be slow to start but I'm often still plugging along when the others are slipping out the back way early.

They can't get to work on time so they want to knock you for doing it. The people I work with get here anywhere from ten minutes to 4 hours late and then have the audacity to leave early or get here an hour before lunch and still take a lunch. They take 2 hour lunches and have the nerve to look at me crazy if I walk in 2 minutes late (according to their clock that is 10 minutes fast) on a day that they are actually on time. So really I am losing 10 minutes on my lunch. Me and the lady I work with will be the only ones in the office sometimes and even she comes and goes as she pleases. I have been here 4 1/2 months and she has taken 3 weeks of vacation. Not to mention the days she just leaves. Keep up the good work.

I have this huge thing with being early (usually I am like half an hour early or so) rather than late. I hate the fact I feel lke I have to justify "why" to coworkers. I feel so weird, even though my answer is something along the lines of "I like to be ready for my day and have everything running smoothly."
I think these people are afraid you'll make them look bad, or truly do not understand the concept of a good work ethic. Just ignore them. They're idiots.

Well if he was there, they had to have been early too, right? Unless they work an earlier shift. Honestly thats really stupid, five minutes can simply be a matter of your watch being slightly fast.

They're just trying to discourage you into screwing up so you look bad. Just show early enough to be ready on time for your job, nothing more, nothing less. Don't worry about them worrying about you, if they're fixated on what time you're showing up to work and they're not your superior then somethings wrong!

They are probably just messing with you because you get so upset at something so simple. Lighten up a bit. They aren't saying you should quit or that you suck or something like that.
When they say "Whay are you so early?" just say something like, "To make sure you are on time, too".

I agree with you. Maybe the reason your co-workers are so aggravated is that they know deep down that you're right and they're wrong.
Keep up the good work!
