I am multi-racial. My mom is Black and my father is Spanish and Indian. I have never understood this but people actually get mad trying to figure out what race I am. I mean some people say I can pass as Black, some say I can pass as Arab, and some say I can pass as Hispanic especially Mexican. But either way I mean what is the reason in trying to figure out what I am. Aren't there more serious things in the world to worry about.

Some people like to put other people into neatly labeled boxes. When they can't do that, it really rocks their world. There are bigger things to worry about. Look at them and tell them, I'm multi-racial. If your talking to an American, you can always add, just like you, since most Americans are many different races themselves.

Yeah like when people trying to get all crazy about what race mariah Carey was or the ROCK, or the triple X guy, LOL. It doesn't really matter. I would probably ask, only if we were getting to know each other. It's like asking what neighborhood you group up in or what sports you like. But I wouldn't go up to a stranger and say "Hey what the hell are you?" I have a TON of mixed friends who really get upset. Hell, I'm considered black because my skin is dark, but there's German, native Indian, and African in my heritage, but no one ask what I'm am. why should you be any different. People can be very insensitive sometimes

So what if people try to figure out what race u r!! You're mixed and you're human ain't u, so that's that!! U ain't fully Mexican or Black. It depends on what u have the most in your family. Like I'm Black and Indian, but most of my family is African American, so I claim Black more than I do Indian. But it doesn't change anything. I'm mixed and I always will be!

I can surely relate. I am black but I am not African. I am Sicilian. People ask me all the time if I am Spanish or middle eastern or Mexican. I just say I am an American. They get frustrated. Silly Silly people with all the problems going on around us every day why are they concerned about my heritage. My husband says to just say I am not from this planet.

Many people get angry when they don't know what something is. Thats because they feel the need to be dominant and understand everything aroung them. If the don't know all around them they feel under whoever does knows that information. Therefore they no longer feel dominant that leads to insecurity which leads to anger. Some people are just wierd like that. But the best thing to do is state your races, give them satisfaction, and move on.

because they want to categorize you as only one race they just don't know which to choose. i'm from a community where everyone is "mixed" from generations passed. if you look at my oldest son you would swear that he was mexican. when i was growing up i was too "white" to be black and to "black" to be white. when i got my new job about 7 yrs ago the ladies in the office (which was all white) was trying frantically to figure out what "race" i was.

some people are scared of uncertain things. and some other people are scared of the different things.
tell them that you are a human just like them and not to worry.
or maybe they want to know if they have something in common with you?
me, as well, not the same thing but sick of being asked everytime if i am a chinese or japanese or korean or philipino or on and on. i would think it's wasting time as well, because that happens just so often.

Some people feel the need to categorize. I can see where that would annoy you. My daughter is German, English, Irish, Jamaican and Native American. Everyone is constantly trying to label her. I pick the "other" box when asked and I think its stupid to have to pick a certain race anyway. You're HUMAN!

Obviously, you were brought up to believe that your race does not matter, unfortunately, the people you're talking about are trying to identify you into their own stereotypes. You're better off ignoring their questions than trying to answer them, because like you said, they're going to get upset at whatever the outcome is...

I can see people getting mad for you making it a way to make them look stupid, maybe they're interpreting it that way? I honestly agree with you that it really dosn't matter and that there are more important things in the world.
