Eric Dickerson has the record of 2,105 yards set in the 1984 season. Jamal Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens was the last to come close to breaking the record in 2003, with 2,066 yards rushing. Lewis failed in his attempt to break Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record on the last day of the season. Eric Dickerson actually held up a sign "19 years and counting" when it was apparent Jamal Lewis would not break the rushing record in 2003. However, someone will get that record sooner rather than later if things continue as they are with the rushing attacks becoming more important due to "clock management". Teams will run fewer plays and hold on to the ball longer. A great "O" line and a solid back will break the record very soon.
Below are the single season rushing record holders by team.

I dont know but Barry Sanders had several 2k yard seasons. I wish he wouldnt have retired because he would have the total yards record several years ago and Emit Smith wouldnt have been able to touch it.
