when i had my miscarriage my doctor asked me if i wanted to just bleed it out or get a d & c (which possibly may hurt future fertility). i chose to let things proceed naturally but changed my mind after 4 wks (weird coincidence) and they said i shouldn't do it because it wouldnt' b worth it. after 4 wks ur body is pretty much done miscarrying so a d&c would be an unnecessary procedure to go through. hope it helps and i'm very sorry for ur loss

I had a miscarriage earlier this year. It was more severe than most...needed a blood transfusion and had to stay in the hospital a few days. I did not have a D&C at that time and was told there was no need..everything was clear. I continued to bleed and cramp for two months and sought a second opinion on if a D&C was needed. In the end, everything was fine, but I felt much better having spoken to another professional about it. If you are not sure about your doctor's advice, get a second opinion. Be sure to talk to a GYN rather than a general practitioner. There is no such thing as asking a stupid question when it comes to your health...mental and emotional as well as physical.

I have to agree with some of the other answerers: if you have a concern about this, please contact an OB/GYN. I would like to think that if the doctor thought that a D & C was required, it would have been mentioned. I had a miscarriage a few months ago, and it was decided that it would be easier to let things occur naturally and everything was okay in the end (confirmed by ultrasound), so I didn't need to do anything further. Again, if you are concerned that everything did not make it out, please contact someone. I'm so sorry, and good luck!

If you're early enough along, you don't need one. The body knows how to stop a failed pregnancy and clean itself out. If there were anything left in there, you'd have gotten toxic shock syndrome by now, characterized by a high fever, vomiting and passing out.

Thank God that it was early enough that you didn't need a D&C. My cousin needed one. She said it was more painful, traumatic and humiliating than any of her 3 c-sections.

Not to mention, regardless of how emotionally difficult it was to lose a first-trimester pregnancy (and I know, I've lost two) it's much better than losing a baby in a late-term miscarriage. The D&C is insult to injury to those poor women, albeit a necessary one.

On the bright side, if you want to have a baby, you'll probably never be as fertile as you are right now, so feel free to start trying again right away.

A dc is done when you are hemoraging bec the baby teared as you had the miscarrage, so to stop the bleeding the do a dc. so u must be fine and dont need one. with my first miscarrage i didnt had a dc, with my second I did have one bec i was hemoraging. so dont worry everything is fine.

A d&c is only required if your body does not expell all of the fetus, in your case it probably did or else your doctor would have performed one, you should be fine, I'm very sorry for your loss
