You should try to figure the problem out for youself. I will help you but I will not give you the answer you will have to get that on your own. Now if the children tickets cost $4.50, multiply starting with the # 2 and keep going until you find the correct number. If the adult tickets are $8.00, multiply until you get the # that is correct then you add the two correct numbers together that will get $108. If I have confused you the two correct numbers should equal $108 and this is after you have multiplied the cost of the tickets by any number.

use 4.5x + 8y = 108 and x+y=17
that means that 17-x=y, so plug that in for y
4.5x + 8(17-x) = 108
4.5x + 136 - 8x =108
-3.5x +136 = 108
-3.5x = -28
x = 8
and 17-x=y
so 17-8=y
so y = 9
8 students tickets and 9 adult tickets

4.5x + 8y = 108
x + y = 17
Multiply bottom by -4.5
4.5x + 8y = 108
-4.5x - 4.5y = -76.5
3.5y = 31.5
y = 9
x + y = 17
x + 9 = 17
x = 8
