I would like some input from people who are already doing this. And, from wives of truck drivers and how it affects your family life. Also, eventually (after the kids leave home) he would like for me to go with him.

Truck driving is a good choice if you really WANT to do it.You need to be aware of the adjustments you have to go through to be a success.1. Being gone from your loved ones to the point of a nonexistant relationship with any of them.2.Being able to perform under very dangerous, stressful, and tiresome conditions. If you can drive long enugh to acquire a"local" driving job then the relationship w/ family may be salvagable.

it all depends on what kind of truck driver he will be. there are some that stay within the same city. normal job, might have to start wroking the graveyard shift first.
then you have the drivers that work within the state. they are usually gone for three days tops, return home and then dont go out again for 4 days later. you can used to it, and the distance between you might bring in more love when he is in town. ]
out of state truck drivers. well here is where it gets a bit hard. the driver can be gone for two or three months. and then you would have to handle all the housework and schoolwork and anything else that would come up by yourself. no help from the big guy. also have you been that far apart from each other before. it could bring you closer, but also keep you apart so long, might put a strain on the relationship.
also if you have little kids, they would not be seeing their daddy that much and most probably your husband would be missing birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc.

I would discuss this thoroughly with your husband. Alot goes on when the cat's away because the mouse will play!

Keep in mind that him being on the road so long mean he will have sexual needs, which at times means he'll engage in homosexual sex at truckstops. I've seen it done.
