You're right! Now that I think about it, every time I see a really bad part of town on the news or on Cops or something the people (especially the women) are enormous.

Not all of us ignore or turn a blind eye the fact that the starving are with us. In our nearest town there are soup kitchens and they are always crowded, and in need of donations. We have a place for vets only, they live in subsidized hotel rooms, in the woods, under bridges. Some will only come out in the dark, the soup, stew or chili is always there, along with the coffee. Some have been this way since Vietnam.
The worst place is Appalachia, kids in the backwoods, often cold, always hungry. I read a newspaper letter to Bush from a little girl in Appalachia. It was when America first started bombing Iraq, and President Bush said we would rebuild Iraq , new schools, new hospitals, water lines, electricity, etc.. She went on to explain, we have no electricity, and often no water, an outhouse and no heat except the wood stove. Our school is closed most of the winter because there is no heat and it's over 75 years old. "Mr. President , could you please drop some bombs on West Virginia and rebuild our town, so we could have a new school, toilets and stuff" Sue Ellen, p.s. some food would be nice, too.

Go work at a homeless shelter or a food kitchen for a month. You'll see plenty of starving, desperately poor people. After such an experience, you may wonder how you ever thought that "lower income folks seem to be larger than average."

define starving? I mean, some people are forced to be on welfare because they can't afford food. So the government gives them a couple hundred dollars a month to feed thier family. While they are eating *something* I doubt its of any nutritional value- and I doubt that a couple hundred dollars a month is enough to feed an entire family.
And the homeless here have to beg for money from strangers on the street in order to feed themselves and americans are caring enough to help these people out sometimes.
By no means is it famine in this country, but there are people that go without eating a decent meal for weeks because they cant afford food.
i was one of them. I made too much money for welfare, but not enough to pay rent to keep a roof over our heads and put a meal on the table every night. We ate a LOT of top ramen noodles and Im sure that people on here can sympathize with that.

Do you live in your closet or what? Get out of the house and go downtown and see all of the homeless people sitting on steam grates just to
keep warm. Then watch them go through the McDonald's trash cans and the dumpster hoping to find something to eat, that someone else did not finish. They may be larger, because being malnourished, their stomach is
distended. GET A LIFE!

They're larger because of places like McDonalds. The only food available to low-income people are the kind that have very little nutritional or health value.
With 5 bucks I could go to 7/11 and get a hotdog, large slurpy and candy.... That'll keep me full for a while.

Starvation in America is mostly of the elderly - behind closed doors.
There are many programs to provide food - the old food stamp program has been around for decades.
The problem is the old people who keep to themselves - the US just doesn't have the sort of social network to keep track of everyone.
There are many issues to be resolved in America, but starvation really isn't a major issue. Why do you think it is? The USA is an exporter of food and has been for over 60 years.

How much time have you spend in inner cities and slums, especially in abandonded buildings and sewer systems? It's not always the people with lower incomes that are starving. Usually it's the people with no income at all.

Eating all the wrong and usually cheaper food
does have a tendency to make humans fat and
unhealthy. Maybe you can find a place to volunteer and you'll see the situation first hand.
Check the URL.
Have a pleasant day.

Give back to the community, go volunteer at local food bank. You will find there are large numbers of hungry in this country. And many of them are skinny. Put your stereotypes to rest. I can't simply TELL you this you must make an effort to KNOW for yourself. Go. It's a real eye opening experience.
