Do a carpet patch!
A nasty stain or unsightly hole doesn't have to ruin the whole carpet. Patch it.
Steps:
1. Cut out the entire damaged area with a utility knife. Try to do this with just one cut on each side and avoid cutting through the carpet pad.
2. Use the cut-out piece as a pattern to cut a new piece. Be sure to match the direction of the pile.
3. Spread carpet adhesive on the exposed carpet pad and on the back of the patch itself.
4. Put some adhesive under the edges of the carpet surrounding the hole as well.
5. Press the patch into the hole and rough up the pile with your fingertips.
6. Let the glue dry for about six hours and then vacuum the patched area.
Tips:
If you accidentally cut the carpet pad, fasten it down with a piece of wide duct tape.
If you don't happen to have extra matching carpet, get a remnant at a carpet store. Take your damaged piece with you when you go to the store to help you find a good match.
Use a sharp blade in the utility knife for the best cut.
Warnings:
Use caution when working with a utility knife.

Find a scrap pc of carpet from a closet area,or leftover carpeting...how large is hole? Can it be repaired by pulling other fibers thu the webbing from surrounding area?I've repaired burns from smokers by brushing the carpet and pulling fiber around hole toward middle, but this only works for holes 1/2 to 1" in dia. Also, when repairing carpet, make sure the knap is going in the same direction as rest of carpet...otherwise when you vaccuum it will look Very Noticeable.

I've seen carpet layers do a trick where they cut out a piece of good carpet (either leftover, or in your case, maybe from back in a closet where no one will see). Anyway, they cut the piece to fill the hole and tape it in place from the back side. It works best with a higher pile carpet, I'm sure!

I would try to cut the loops as low as possible and get a spot that does not show. like the closet. Take the piece to glue on the small holes. Gorilla glue is really good for most repairs.

Anyone who can properly install carpet will have a seaming iron and seam tape. That is the best way to patch carpet with a scrap.

What pat from ohio said: get a pro. I tried to do it myself following the instructions in a home repairs book and the result was so bad I had to call in a pro, who did a beautiful job in considerably less time than my hack job took.

I actually used a needle and thread to mine. YOu have to do a lot of sewing but it works. Then, cover it because your dog will continue to return to that spot. Best wishes.
