Yes, it is very expensive to import oil.
However it makes more sense to use up most
or all of their resources first.
When the importable resources run out, then that would the right time to tap into your own.
That's real world conservation at work.

Look at $800 billion US trade deficit. US economy is gradually becoming totally dependent on foriegn resources. There's no more free Black or Latino labor to dig the oil out.

I strongly agree. Unfortunately, the answer is that the environmentalist wackos have used the courts and legislatures to prohibit any additional drilling in the U.S. Now look what a pickle we're in.
