try upgrading the processor to at least 2ghz and upgrade the ram to 512mb-1gb. also you may be infected with spyware or viruses. i use avira free and ad-aware spyware protection.if you computer is slow at startup go to start-run and type in msconfig, click on startup and disable all the programmes at startup. defragment monthly, do scans for viruses and spyware weekly.
go to my computer , right click on your hard drive. do an error scan and a disk clean-up.
my pc was very slow , i did all this and it is working brill. good luck!

You can defragment. Also, on My Computer, click on Properties. On the first page that pops up, you will see how much RAM you have. If it's 256MG - Go to Circuit City and get another 256MG. It has instructions right on the package to install. Before you do this, go to the website for your brand PC, and make sure you can add more RAM. If it's a laptop, chances are you only have 256MG. I just added this to my Gateway laptop, and it's really fast now. The website will tell you the maximum you can install. Be sure to do this or you could get something you can't use.

most people have hit on it, buy more RAM, or you can wait for windows vista to come out when you can actually use portable storage devices (such as pen drives) to act as temp/perm extra ram, very cheap way to boost your running speed, and check your graphics card too, having a good one take the load off the rest of your PC and helps it run faster.

You really need to supply more details about the PC and the problem, but as a first stab, I would say add more resources - RAM, probably would be a good start.

Hey there,
Cleaning the register is a good way of improving the performances of your pc and eliminate malwares and trojans. A program I trust is CCleaner http://bit.ly/UrAtkE
It's surely the leader program of its type
