Run it through one cycle in the washing machine. If it comes out crumpled, but still in one piece, it's real. In shreds, it's fake.

You can usually tell just by looking at it - it's just not the right color of green. Also - the texture is different. You can hold a real bill in one hand and a fake bill in another and feel the difference. There are also features on the bill itself - there is a watermark that you can only see if you hold up to the light of the president's face that is on the bill, there is a strip running through the bill that has the denomination listed on it.

i dont know about american money but Brittish pounds have a watermark, when you hold it upto the light u can see the mark, also you can buy a "money tester pen" its like one of those pens with invisible ink in it, u scribble on the notes and if the ink shows the money is fake
