I work in the front office and in the warehouse they are painting or using paint thiner- as soon as I walked in from lunch today that was all I could smell- I mentioned it to my boss but he just kinda acted like no big deal- what should I do? What are the effects short term and long term to exposure... I am starting to get a headache...

Most paint does not contain harmful fumes to the fetus, but paint thinner may. I would call your doctor (OB or Family Health) and confirm this. If your doctor thinks you shouldn't be around the fumes, then your boss cannot simply dismiss it. TRUST ME! I had very bad anxiety when I was pregnant and I worked with death claims for an insurance angency- it got so bad that all I did was cried and worried about myself or my kids dying in a car accident! My boss told me to grow up, my doctor realized it was more than that- My heart rate and blood pressure were execerated all the time- he put me on bed rest and my boss couldnt do a thing about it! (ended up quiting after my leave was paid because she was such a witch) So consult your doctor. Depending on where you are in your pregnancy, headaches could indicate an increase in blood pressure and that isn't good for anyone- it could indicate preeclampsia. Good luck and feel better!

Your sense of smell improves when youa re pregnant, so maybe you are more sensitive--however you shouldn't risk it as it could hurt the baby. I'd move to a more ventilated area.

Take the day off. You shouldn't be around it. I don't know the specific hazards, but you shouldn't be exposed.
