In the UK, if you get paid 40p per mile, the tax people reckon that it does not count as income. Allowing for cheaper petrol in the USA, but most cars use more of it, I make that about 65 to 70 cents per mile.

I was a messenger in Los Angeles back in 84 and at the time the company was billing 1.00 per mile and it was a 50/50 split i would imagine that its up to a buck at least by now
