I have an underactive thyroid, and although I was never particularly overweight, there is a possibility that some of the extra weight (but possibly not all, may be attributed to the condition).

If you have been given medication (thyroxine) for this and I'm assuming you have, will in actual fact give you, over a steady period of time, will likely cause some weight loss.

It is not necessarily the easy answer to losing weight though. The thyroxine which is naturally produced in the body, will normally achieve the correct balance.

Your thyroid gland is producing insufficient which means that your metabolism is not working to the correct levels.

All the thyroxine will do, and your GP will insist on regular blood tests to evidence this, will make up what your thyroid is not doing.

Your body will not function with either too much, or too little.

Don't worry though, an underactive thyroid entitles you to FREE prescriptions for life. It is not a condition to fear providing you regularly take the prescribed medication at the correct level.

While your doctor may review your treatment at some point and put you on prescription drugs, you can take a natural supplement that stimulates thyroid activity. It was recommended to me by a doctor when I was diagnosed with a mild thyroid problem. You need to buy pure Sea Kelp extract, this is rich in Iodine which stimulates the thyroid. I get mine from www.healthspan.com, but there may be cheaper alternatives out there.

I take it daily and it has stopped my weight gain, I have even lost a little, but obviously if your doctor prescribes drugs for you, make sure they are ok to take with the prescription drugs.

Hope this helps x

I bumped into a good online resource about hypothyroidism (a desease I'm trying to overcome myself).
Check it out here http://hypothyroidism.toptips.org

I have personally tested this method and I had great results.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood are increased and is characterised by a metabolic imbalance. The thyroid gland is a small endocrine gland located at the base of the neck. It produces thyroid hormone, which control various body functions. Hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis results from excess quantities of thyroid hormone in the body.
With the metod that i posted above you can definitely get rid of hypothyroidism

You won't put much more weight on than normal.
What I found is that I get tired a lot quicker and need more rest than before I had an underactive thyroid.

Make sure you eat healthy meals if you want a full lifestyle!
Lots of vegetables and fruit, and protein helps energy levels.

Also, make sure your on the right levels of Thyroxine, as this will make a difference to your body weight as well as your energy levels.

No need to be worried about your weight. Just go and see your GP, who will probably put you on a drug called Thyroxin, after testing the amount you are lacking. This can be a temporary measure, but should be corrected. Good luck.

A doctor can easily diagnose if this is the case or not. If it is, one small pill a day will solve that problem - synthroid used to be the most common prescription for this issue, not sure what it is today.
