What are good ways to discipline a 5yr old who is your stepson? Cause the time out thing doesn't seem to be working nor taking away things, such as toys and t.v.

Where's his father? Don't punish him, let his father do it.

Try a check system, like in school.

Get a chalk board and put it up where he can see it. Tell him "when you misbehave, I will put your name on the board and tell you what you are doing wrong. If you continue to do it, I will put a check by your name. For each check, your daddy will smack your behind bare bottom when he gets home. If you get more than 4 checks, I will confine you to your room until your father gets home."

Discuss this method with your husband.

Also you can have him EARN off the checks, by doing exactly what you ask the first time during the rest of the day.

I live with my 3 step children and in the divorce clause we had put in there that only the biological parents are to issue corporal punishment, such as a spank on the butt. I do not think that a stepparent or anyone else has the right to spank a child. What works for me is after dinner usually they have a snack, when they finish their meal, if they do not have a good day their snack is taken away. Time out also works where they have to stand in the corner and then explain why they went to the corner when their time is done. And when that does not work they stay on their bed until their dad gets home and they get a spank on the butt.

It sounds like you may need to talk to the other parent. If those things aren't affecting him he may need to be talked to and let him what the rules are by the natural parent. It really shouldn't matter if he is your stepson or your natural child. They need to be treated the same. Or that could cause a lot more conflict in the home.

be consistant in your discipline- it may take time and a lot of patience, but its the right thing to do.

Talk to the child explain what was wrong and why w/out nagging and time out for 5 minutes= 1 minute per yr age wise.

then let them get up , hug them, and resume the day.

period end of discipline

Make friends with him first. Then when you do get bothered by his behaviour he will notice and it will bother him more.

He's still young. Reward the good behaviour with surprises at first that at quick [short time span] and then after a long while work on the not so good.

He will be good if he wants to be right? So make him want to!

time out in a chair, facing the corner and adding minutes if he peeks worked on my daughter when nothing else did. make sure anything making noise (tv, radio, etc...) is off so he can't enjoy the time.

it isn't the easiest thing to do and enforce but in the end it's worth it.

I hear ya, just stay consistent, if he gets out of time out, put him back in and always get down to his level and tell him why he is in trouble. Eventually I promise he will get it! If it takes 5 times he will catch on. Be patient,

It isn't cruel to take a bare hand to a bottom now and again. Just don't hit with a belt or wooden spoon.

Lock him in his room for a couple of days with no food or water. He'll get the message pretty quick.
