because you do not own it!!! lol really, that is against the law for retailer to remove the tag.

You may tear off the tags from mattresses,pillows and such. The tags are placed there by the manufactures to insure that you know the contents that they were made from. Federal law prohibits initial sale without these tags.Once you purchase them you can remove them.This insures that they were produced with new materials.

I spent the night in jail one time for a childish prank. While I was there I tore the tag off the mattress I was laying on. I love irony.

Retailers cannot remove the tag. Once you have purchased a mattress and it has been delivered to your home, you can do whatever you want with it. Including removing the tag.

It is only on there to prevent people from tearing off the tags prior to sale.

It needs to stay on the item until the final consumer purchases it. This way you as buyer know for sure what it's made of. Once it's in your home, you can do what you please with the tag.

You can take it off once you have purchased it. Just don't tear, cut instead. I used to be afraid of that too when I was very, very, young.
