Seeing as it was Democrats that was responsible for slavery and Jim Crow laws I think you should be asking the question of them. Andrew Jackson kept civil rights from taking place in the 1800's, The civil war was over and it was upto the government to finally make things right. But The South didn't want it and lets not forget that the South was Democrat back then, they are responsible for slavery meaning it is a Democrat mistake not Repbulican. Of course you could just be like most Democrats and have history start over the moment you wake up meaning nothing you did the day before matters.
It wasn't till the Republicans got a majority in the congress and receptive President did civil rights become real in 1963, to bad many can not see that and see that it is Democrats that are part of the KKK, Byrd anyone?

I wish people would stop their obsession with race. Has ANYTHING else been more of a scourge on this country? Self-inflicted too! Slavery existed in most cultures, but it's a shame our country had anything to do with it.
I think back to when I was in DC and read Lincoln's second inaurgual, carved in his Memorial. The basic idea was that the terrible war was our punishment for slavery. Could be that the debt is not yet paid?
