The way to determine when to test is to determine how many days past ovulation you are (about 14 days past will guarantee an accurate reading on HPTs). If you have not been keeping track of your ovulation (by charting your temperatures or with a fertility monitor, or some other method), then you will have to wait until at least day 28 to start testing, but I would wait until day 36 so that you know you are really late...or else you could be in for disappointment - good luck

If your HPT was positive then you are pregnant, HPT's detect smaller amounts of HCG, which s the hormone produced when pregnant, In order for a blood test to be positive the hcg amounts have to be a certain number which is usually very high. I would definitely trust your HPT because there are not false positives. It does not matter how long your cycle is what matters is to know when you ovulated, and about 16 days after ovulation is when you get a positive result. Good luck!!!

go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler
This book will help you with all of your menstrual and conception questions. It covers everything from temperature to mucus checking, etc.. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! My husband and I tried for a year and nothing happened. The first month I used the book we conceived right away. Now I am due Feb 2. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

If you know when you ovulated you should test 10-14 days after that. If your blood test showed neg. your prob not Preg since they are way more sensitive than HPT - or its just too early. You may have gotten a false pos. on the home test

if you have irregular periods and are TTC you should take a HPT about once a week, and have sex every other day, not every day(sperm takes 24-48 hours to build up a decent amount)

Give yourself another week and if you don't start your period have another blood test. I always waited until my 35th day to test, my cycle was anywhere from 32-35 days long.
