It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that some of it is completely cluess, like the US attacking afghanistan for its oil, the dihydrogen monoxide deal, and other such thoughts...

Actually it is quite the contrary. Your statement was true when I was in school, but now younger people are shockingly conservative.

Universities are supposed to be breeding grounds for diversity of thought, for exploration ideas and concepts not previously considered.

Too often professors simply push their own agenda. In their minds it's okay to be a dissenter, if you are dissenting against whatever the professor is against.

Disagree with the liberal professor and you are a malcontent, trouble-making fascist. Disagree with the conservative professor, you are a malcontent, trouble-making bleeding heart and impractical idealist--or worse.

There are some balanced teachers out there-- those who are not threatened by student ideas--but they're not the most common.

Having worked at several universities during the past 12 years, I'll tell you that most professors are far to the left of center. There are some centrists and a few conservatives. It can vary by school, though.

And no, going to college does not mean you are smart. For many people, college is the new High School. It's the level of education generally required to find higher paying jobs.

But when it's at its best, it really can open new worlds to you. It can be fertile ground for greatness.

Let me see, the 'liberal' colleges, the 'liberal' media, 'liberal' hollywood. the words 'liberal' and 'conservative' are thrown around almost as carelessly as words like 'love' these days. They are only liberal when they are in disagreement with the leadership these days it seems. A conequence of the neo-cons? I doubt it. In fact, I doubt liberalism is a consequnce of higher education, as clearly plenty of conservative thinkers are formed in college also. Otherwise, one wouldn't expect to hear about college as a 'breeding ground' of ideas they do not agree with. Try to remember that most scholars and professors did not get thier degree because they are were the stuipidest people in the country, nor is their commitment to thier own research interests inteded to contribute to the misinformation of society. Buzzwords and rhetoric created by savvy pompous asses do a hell of a lot better job at that. You always have something to learn from them, even when they are so close-minded you feel that they are compromising the free-thinking value of university studies. You'll have your chance to spread the word, for now just survive the classes!

Why? Because they question the obvious bullshit rhetoric that the right wing government spits out endlessly that the stupid uneducated hicks believe to their death even after its been shown wrong?

Or perhaps being educated forces one to have a more open mind and thus become more liberal.

It seems to me that the most educated people tend to be more liberal and the extreme conservatives are so because of ignorance and religious beliefs.

I've taught at both MIT and the Wharton School. Most of the faculty members in my department are conservatives.

I'd change your statement to "Universities are breeding grounds for thought -- both liberal and conservative." And that is the way it should be.

Liberal, conservative...blah blah blah...
Create your own education.
Universities are for exploration of the mind. Putting limits on your outcome only leads to the mainstream mindset. Think outside the box, the cage, the system... think of what you want to accomplish then do your own due diligence. You get out of it what you put in.

Schools are breeding grounds for liberals...Think about it, its the only way they can bel empowered over others because in real life they don't matter.

And if you don't conform to their way of re-writing history then you fail.
