i just read a question that was something to the effect of what are some good places to visit in arizona? someone replied with i dont know i live in new york. why do people even waste time doing that? it doesnt help with anything, its just annoying. these are the same people who answer a question that has 25 answers already, all of them the same. do the world a favor, and jump into a woodchipper.

ALSO those people who will probably answer this question with youre mean, you should keep your opinion to yourself. blah blah blah STFU and join the people in the ceremonial wood-chipper-jumping-into.

chuckle, chuckle -- F.Y.I. : I am NOT one of those people. Logically, I think I know why people do this. If you are in a group of people and having a group conversation and you ask a question you are going to get all kinds of answers. These will include "I don't know" no doubt, by someone. But, there may be people present who do have a knowledgeable answer. It's like that on here. People just answer sometimes even when they have no information or knowledge about the topic. Good day to you.

Because Yahoo Answers requires people to reach Level 2 before they have any valid rating input. I'm answering anything I have any type of information or opinion about just to get the stupid points required to actually USE the site. faqfarm.com does not require people to have a certain number of points to participate in the web community and I think I'm going to give up on this Yahoo garbage until they come to their senses.

I know that there's more than 25 answers to your question, but I had to reply. We know there's some people that are going for the points. I guess having a huge number of points, and getting to a high level on Y/A is going to make them famous.

Perhaps it is just because this particular forum makes it easy to be heard. Everybody wants to be heard ( in my opinion).

Even people that do not have a legitimate answer to whatever question feel empowered somehow by just writing anything. By doing this they may feel a little " high" by simply being involved on any level with something bigger than just them.

For a short time they are part of "us". Thats often better than just being alone.

You have a great point. Besides why does everyone wants soo many points for? do you get to redem them for a free friggin car in the end or what? Yahoo answers are meant to help people out not as a contest to see who can awnswer the most questions with the worst responses.

Some of us do not realise that we are stupid when we answer a question. It's not until we read the other answers that we realise just how stupid our own reply is. But people answer questions in good faith and as such they should be accepted in the same spirit that they were given.

Not all of us a Buddy Einsteins, but just amateurs trying our best to please. lol

I think Yahoo have done a pretty good job of the points structure - and that's not really the problem.
Einstein said it best:

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

They answer for the 2 points. But I didn't.

They probably just answer to get the points, I try to look for questions that I know the answer to, or even funny ones.

People who ask questions are just as negligent as those who answer.

Some people don't even bother to declare a best answer after people have taken the time to respond.

So ~ it works both ways, kiddo.
