I'm 39 weeks and a day,I've been having contractions on and off since saturday I'm dialated 2 cm I went into the doc yesterday and havent dialated or progressed anymore than last week I told her I haven't slept in days (which she could tell she said) and I'm miserable can't we do something!? So she said she was going to be on call at the hospital today to just go in around 3 or 4 and ell them I'm having contractions and she will try and induce me. So that's what I'm doing! I'm done! Good luck to you! And if you have any other questions feel free to email me! I hope this helps I know everyone dosen't agree w/ this but I'm exhausted!

sometimes just explaining that you are tired and ready for the baby can help make a doctors decision to induce but only if you are showing progression (dialation), you could ask him to sweep your membranes, there could also be medical reasons that he wont induce you for such as if you are not dialating very well and you are induced you run a high c-section risk.
Enjoy your last days being pregnant and get all the rest you can!
I hated to hear this when I was pregnant but I soon understood why I was always told this.

There are only a few reasons why they would keep you at the hospital/dr.'s office.
1. If something is going terribly wrong with the baby. They usually do an ultrasound at this point, if not already. If the baby is breach or abnormal heartbeat, they might induce or schedule for a c-section.
2. If you are a high-risk pregnancy (you should know this if you are.) You would have been bed-ridden and they would induce delivery when they could.
3. If you are having twins or other complications.
Otherwise, wait it out and deliver when your body is ready.

Full term babies are from 38 to 42 weeks. You are so close that you might actually be in labor w/out even knowing it. Your doctor will let you know if you have dialated any from your last appointment. If you are ready for the pain of labor to end and the joys of a child to start then tell your doctor you are ready. Tell them you are uncomfortable and are ready for it to be over. Not all doctors will just induce you though so just do whatever the doctor advises. Better to listen to them and be sure you baby is safe. I know it's hard to wait but it will be worth the wait in the end. Good luck and here is baby dust to get you started~~~~ :)

You poor girl. Unfortuanatly not! Every doctor is different....you can always beg and pleed but it doesn't always work! :(
On my second pregnancy the doctor REFUSED to talk to me about inducing until I was 40 full weeks....then still scheduled it for a few days later!
On my third, with a different doc, he let me be induced at 38 weeks 3 days, but by then we had already proven that I had huge babies and he was leaving for vacation for 2 weeks.
Good luck sweetie! Congrats on the new one!!

It's understandable that you want to get the birth over with, but it's best to let nature take its course. Induction is only recommended if the baby's health is at risk or if you are overdue.
Ways to get labour to start more easily are to walk a lot and do exercises that encourage the baby to move down.

If you are not contracting nor dialating, your doctor will not put you in the hospital. Some babies do arrive after their due date and that's normal. The only reason to put you in the hospital right now is if you want to have a cesarean (c-section).

Congratulations! You're almost there. I don't think there is anything you can say to the doc to move it along but you'll be holding your precious baby soon enough so congrats again, you made it!

Walk as much as possible before the visit, maybe it will help you dialate or start some contractions. Drink water too!
