Hypothetical situation: Your house needs to be cleaned. Namely, the kitchen floor. You just finished cleaning some meat and there is some dripping on the floor. Your 9 month old baby is in high gear and wants to toddle and crawl all over the floor by you. She's whining over being in the pen. Does a good parent:

A.) Police up the germy mess and sanitize the floor and let it dry, maybe do some 15 minute quick tidying while you can as well before letting baby out?

B.) Just say the hell with it, let the baby out just because she wants out?

C.) Put off everything that needs to be done to clean the home and just play with the baby?

A. I would rather have a hollering baby(nothings wrong with baby developing a good set of lungs)---than have a sick child hospitalized 4 E-coli,salmonella poisoning or some other nasty virus or disease.

Definitely A - if you were just talking about the usual little bit of crumbs or dust on the floor, that would be one thing, but with the meat, that can be a dangerous thing.

It's definitely hard to leave the baby in the pen when she's wanting out. As far as regular house cleaning, I would say that I would spend more time with the baby than cleaning house. I would make sure that the house was clean, tidy, and safe for the baby, but if I just didn't get to dust behing the TV and refrigerator today because my 9 month old wanted my attention - then they would be dusty for another day.

There is nothing to think about in this situation. There is blood/ raw meat on the floor. You must clean up the mess before allowing the baby to play on the floor. A 9 month old baby doesn't know that raw meat is very dangerous but a parent sure does.

A good parent would clean the mess and sanitize before letting the child out. Letting baby out with raw meat juice on the floor opens up all sorts of germs for baby to get sick and you don't want that.

A.. because what the baby wants and what she needs are different things. Let her cry while you clean and then spend some time with baby afterwards. A healthy clean house is better for baby than a germy one. Always remember to keep baby away from harsh chemicals when cleaning.

Leave the baby in the playpen for a few minutes and clean up the mess. You could put in a dvd that the baby likes and that might buy you a few more minutes. You can't eep them from germs forever, but you don't want a baby crawling through meat drippings.

If she is whining over being in the playpen and has been in there a while already, I say you should definetly clean up the germy mess, then let her out to play.

If you just put her in the playpen and she has only been in a few minutes, then letting her fuss for a few moments while you do somethings isn't a problem in my opinion- as long as you know all her needs have been met and she is ONLY crying because she is wanting you to pick her up or let her out.

Since you are talking about meat drippings, I would say clean the floor above all else. The baby could get a serious illness from that. If it was just a mess, say Cheerios or something, my answer would probably be different.

D) Wipe up the mess because the raw meat could make the baby sick. Then take the baby out of the pen and take her to the room you want to clean. Close the door or block it with a baby gate then talk to her while you clean the room. Repeat until house is clean....lol.... Welcome to motherhood.

Hope this helps... My son loved it when he was little we made an adventure out of it and I normally let him crawl into the room he wanted and I would block it off and clean while he explored and we would "talk".

A - in the interest of sanity. Another option is to get a gate to keep the child out of the kitchen while you do your meal prep so the child is in view and can toddle about or visit with you over the gate. Doing the big germy type cleanup (ie. bathroom) while baby is napping helps, as well.

MY THING IS LET THE BABY WHINE, CLEAN UP THE GERMY MESS. STRAIGHTEN UP WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND THEN LET THE BABY FREE. THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CLEANING LATER. AFTER YOU AND THE BABY ARE TIRED OUT, THEN YOU BOTH CAN REST. THE REASON WHY I SAY DO THIS IS BECAUSE YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR BABY TO GET A HOLD OF ANYTHING. ALSO YOU WANT YOUR HOUSE TO BE GERM FREE SO BABY WON'T GET SICK, IF THAT CAN BE AVOIDED.
