When comes down to the next actual great back like an Walter Payton or Emmit Smith, Regie Bush and Larry Johnson do come to mind, but the instead of looking into the future and picking someone now, you can't help but not notice Ladanlian Tomlison from San Diego.
With the departure of Drew Brees and a very inexperienced quarterback, look for him to get the most work and ball touches. In last night's Monday Night Football game against the Raiders, Philip Rivers threw only 12 times all game. Ladanlian is the workhorse. San Diego is playing many teams in reloading phase right now, so with the number of times he touches the ball and the teams he plays, its only a matter of time.
Another immediate back that comes to mind is regining MVP Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks. In the NFC, it used to be known as good defensive teams. Now, its all offense. He splits the load with Matt Hasselbeck, but when they come anywhere near the redzone, it falls on Shaun. Reggie Bush is going to be an all-pro, but as in the immediate future, he splits carries with Duece McAllister. When Shaun and Landalian, its all about them. Again, its only natural that the more you see the ball, the better chances for yards you get. After all, Emmit Smith and Walter Payton really didnt have to worry about sharing carries with another back.

Last year Ronnie Brown rushed for nearly 1,000 yards as a Dolphins rookie. Ricky Williams, also on the team, gained a total of 700+ yards. If you figure that the Dolphins won't be platooning their running game much this year, expect 1,400-1,500 yards rushing from Ronnie Brown. In my mind, it's hard to compete with that from a second year player. Although Reggie Bush might turn out to be better down the road, Ronnie Brown is my pick for this year's young stud!

Ian Johnson of Boise State
From USA today:
•Ian Johnson— The Boise State running back scored five touchdowns in the Broncos 42-14 rout of Oregon State on Thursday night. Johnson collected 238 yards rushing for Boise State's prolific offense, which has averaged 44 points over its first two games.
Maybe not the next Marshal Faulk.....but watch out for him....

If my team needed running, I would rather have traded down for Lendale White than kept the pick & got Reggie Bush.

DeAngelo williams
this guy can cut just as good as reggie
and after he cuts its straight up the feild
none of that unessesary cutting back across the feild (reggie's habit)
This guy would be just as hyped as reggie but he went to a smaller college

I think uppercut is the only one who got this "right" (quotes because it's opinion).
When you say "next great" it usually implys the guys who are hall of famers, the next (in this case) payton/smith/sanders/brown, not usually guys who are going to be the next current star.
For next legends, I'd say LT for sure. Even matched with the few guys ranked among him in the league, he just has this image, this 'aura' about him that put him next to Emmit and Walter and Barry.
For next stars....hmm..I don't wanna analyze deep, but Cadillac and Ronnie will probably be good (Dolphin's O-Line needs to step up though). Reggie will probably follow. Willie Parker's already pretty decent.
