My girlfriend loves mine...I'm happy with them as well. I find them attractive, personally. People are all different and if they aren't into it, that's every bit as good.
In the context of things like piercings and tattoos, "A little is ok, but too much is bad." The problem is that "too much" is way too nebulous...for some, a tiny little hoop in one ear is "too much" where somebody else decides that stretching past 2" in their lobes is "too much"
When people decide that their "too much" should be mine, that's when I get annoyed. My ears are 5/8" right now...I have no particular goal in mind as to what size I'm after. I gauge up whenever the feeling strikes and feels right. I've gone up and down over the years...1/2" down to 6ga back to 5/8"
Ultimately it's just an expression of me. If people like, or at least respect it (even if they may personally not 'like' it), then they have my respect in return.
While I have no children (nor desire) I'll proudly tell everybody about my younger life when I'm 85...great big holes, tattoos, and everything. But then, I've considered that in advance before I made my decisions.

Whatever gauged ears are, I'm sure some guys/girls would like it. I think self mutillation is a sign of problems that I wouldn't want to deal with in a meaningful relationship.

Ok first off the guages are even #'s starting at 22 at the smallest which is like a regular earing post and go up to 00 at the largest and then you start to get into fractions of inches. And I think it's great for both guys and girls as long as you go about it the right way by starting small and working your way up that way if you want to go back to a smaller size your ears will and do shrink back down.

Personally, it's not something that I would do to myself.
For me it's the same as piercings, tattoos, etc. Ultimately, what you do to your body, you will have to answer for... image yourself at 85 telling your grandchildren or great grandchildren about what you did to your body when you were younger.

It might be hot right now. But what happens when this fad just goes away and you have earlobes down to you neck.

I guess people need to express their individuality. Especially in adolescence. Plus, it ticks of daddy quite a bit, so that's an added bonus.

it depends. i stretched mine all the way to a 2ga, then shrunk them back to a 14ga. now i'm at an 8ga. If you don't rush and do it the right way, there will be no "damage" to your ear. It's fun to do, and it's one hell of an adrenaline rush. do it.
