According to yahoo news, a Madrid fashion event have turned away underweight models, because young girls have developed eating disorders trying to copy their stick insect abnormal physiques.

All I can say is about time too! But now model agencies are up in arms about the decision!

Maybe hopefully, they will now get the message that we are fed up of the bulimia, anorexia and heroin chic look. Employ some normal women with healthy curves!

Whats your opinion?

Ha ha ha, I see that everyone is agree with you.
So I'll be the first and maybe the only one who doesn't.
Reason?
In case you don't know, the problems is not the models or the agencies, it's the society's perception, it's you!!!
Why do you have to be as thin as the models?
The clothes they show also available in bigger sizes.
And another one, bulimia or anorexia is mental problems, it's not the way you look. There is no "anorexic weight range".
It's not the fault of the models that they are that skinny, most of them were born that way. And then someday a talent searcher meet them somewhere and ask them to become a model.
There are also many "average" and "plus" sized models on the market, but most of the fashion industry people still choose the thin ones? Why? Because that's what the market wants, not
what they want.
And what's wrong with being skinny anyway? I like them, and I bet most of those models that you think are anorexic are healthier than you.

The difficulty for fashion and model agencies and their full range of staff is that they are not 'real' people in touch with the real 'world'. It is their perception of glamour and the ideal which is at fault.

The fashion and glamour magazines are to blame too. The current 'glossy's seem completely transfixed with so called models and 'celebrities' who have lost or gained a few ounces.

If women were honest with themselves they would look at the two worlds and realise which in reality is the best world.

Men like to see and feel, real curves, just as women like to feel the full shape of a man (preferably with a few muscles if possible). How many of us in reality likes to cuddle up to a skeleton.

Also how many of the stick thin fashionatas, models and celebrities have meaningful, lasting relationships. Very few if the truth be known.

Young people and the more maturer types will inevitably try to achieve stick thin shapes because they believe it will make them more successful and appealing to others.

I am always saddened to hear when this moves into the realms of an eating disorder. It will only achieve heartache for themselves and those closest to them!

Agree with you %100. The media has a lot to answer for! They knowingly seem to feel that all women and young girls, have to be stick insects, just to either wear designer clothes, or look like a model, but we are not models, nor are we someone they envisage in their minds. We are normal everyday women and young girls and we look great as we are!

I feel that the media, in whatever form, are responsible for making us feel that it's not good to be medium built of larger, so women and young girls make themselves sick on purpose just look good, when they already do. The media, in whatever form need a very serious wake up call!!!

I totally agree!! The message that underweight models transmit is really bad! People like Victoria Beckham are sending the wrong message to young girls!! Being extremely thin is not healthy + in my opinion women don't look nice! Not to say that if you develop anorexia you can become sterile and damage your heart and your stomach!

About time to! I have a little girl of 8 and is thin and obsessed with what she eats (fat content). Now this is not because of me its because of peer pressure even at this tender age of what they can and cant eat. Also children calling her fat when she is definitely not. (Every meal time is a battle). They get this from TV and magazines. So employ curvy women in the fashion industry - spend a few more quid on material - then maybe kids wont grow up feeling insecure about themselves.

I agree that it's absurd some of the trend now is to be super thin and it's just not healthy. It's not good for young girls now to idolize these anorexic models so I think it's about time for someone to make a stand. Good for them!

It is true that sex sells. And being thin is considered being sexy. So companies and designers advertising their clothing isn't going to hire agencies that hire overweight models.

So in the end, the angency goes under.

This is a social problem. Not a industry problem. The fashion industry just goes with the flow of society.

A lot of those models aren't pretty because they're so thin - their faces look like they're caving in! I think it's great to ban them, and totally agree with your idea about getting in women with a few curves!

I totally agree with you and with them on that decision. Diets are changing as healthy eating is encouraged for people overweight, so why not use models to promote that healthy weight with a sensibly sized figure and a healthy attitude towards their body.
