illiria is spreading false information...to that end I say this, shame on you illiria.
The annual flu vaccine is based on the population of the virus/viruses that show up in April and May of THIS year. The vaccine is developed, tested, and then mass produced. The vaccine for this fall's flu season is ready, it will be sent in order of the orders sent in. Most will have it available Mid October. It is wise to wait til the end of October or the first part of November to get the vaccine as it takes about 20 days for your body to build up adequate immunity. And the height of the flu season is usually late January thru March.
YOU CANNOT get the flu from the vaccine. The vaccine is produced from the protein coat of dead viruses, there is no infective agent. Many years ago, we used to use live attenuated or weakened virus for a vaccine, to force the body to produce antibodies, and some did get the flu from this. But none of today's injectable flu vaccines are produced using live virus. However, the flumist, nasal product does indeed use live attenuated viruses and is not recommended for the chronically ill or elderly.
