Other than designing the ad or having someone else do it, like professionals, one must plan the dates and submit to the media by the deadline within their time frame and available schedules, and preparation time for print or air time.
If merchandise is being advertised, management must plan to have ample supplies to service the consumers, in response to the ad.

Advertising budgets are planned as a percent of gross sales, on an annual, bi-annual, and monthly basis. This can and is adjusted up or down as sales warrant.

If this is an Ad account planner position, that's kind of different.. It's been blowing up lately

It consists of a lot of research and a lot of asking questions to come up with new concepts and ideas for the Creatives to work with in an agency. They're very smart, keep up with current trends and cultures [from around the world], and carry the evidence of what will work and what will sell
