Hello,
You can always go to a buy here, pay here car lot. They don't run your credit and they usually work with you. The only thing is the charge a lot more interest rates than any other car lots would that run your credit. And another thing, when you do get a down payment, go to a real car lot and then you can take that car back to the buy here, pay here place. Usually their cars are junk and the best thing about that is, the car won't go on your credit report because they don't run your credit. (well, at least the one I went to). Good luck you will get a car, soon. Then again, try a real car lot, someone is out there willing to work with you. Talk to a car salesman they can work something out with you. Some will do anything and bend over backwards just to get your business and their commission. Good luck again, and GOD Bless!

Yes you'll need to go buy-here/pay-here. Look for a JD Byrider or DriveTime in your area. Also look for as short of term as possible. Also ask if they report to the credit agencies as if they do, this can help you establish credit so you can get a nicer car in a relatively shorter period of time. Manage your credit by paying down credit card debt and put aside a set amount each month that you would be paying for the car you wanted (Say a $200/monthly payment). After a year of doing this, this will give you a $2400 down payment and you'll be able to move into a nicer car. Try to do a 1-year agreement at a buy-here/pay-here with nothing down and then you'll be set to move up in 12 months.

I was in that same predicament. I could not get a car without a co-signer either. I was turned down by at least 15 banks/credit companies including my own credit union. I ended up going to one of those "Buy Here/Pay Here" car places. I had to use my credit card for the down payment, however. See if there is one of those car places in your area, they don't even use credit checks. I ended up with a 2000 Cavalier, so I'm pretty happy. (Better than my crappy 11-year old Escort with a bad engine!)

Try your local bank or credit union. This must be a small institution where you can speak directly to a decision maker. If you can't do that, or if you're unsuccessful, the "Buy Here Pay Here" route is your next best option. Try DriveTime.
Good luck!
