By the term striker you imply someone just to score goals. By this reckoning that rule Henry out straight away. Even though he scores frequently for Arsenal, he can't do it for France and never did it at any other club he's been to. Arsenal are built round him and geared that he gets the goals.
Strikers are natural born finishers i.e Shearer, Lineker, Pele etc who do it year after year. To my mind there are only a couple who spring to mind. Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Van Nistelrooy and by current form Ronaldo can be cast aside.

To my mind I think Shevchenko wins it. He's got a better range of scoring. By this I mean he scores goals from more varied situations which makes him more deadly in my eyes. Nistelrooy pretty much only scores goals from a few yards out.

I hate to admit it but the numbers show Tierry Henry as the best striker in the world:

Tierry Henry:
Club Goals/Matches= 238/360 (0.6)
Nat. Team Goals/Matches = 38/88 (0.4)

Andriy Shevchenko:
Club Goals/Matches = 236/420 (0.56)
Nat. Team Goals/Matches = 27/60 (0.45)

Samuel Eto'o
Club Goals/Matches = 108/235 (0.46)
Nat. Team Goals/Matches = 24/60 (0.4)

I still like Sheva better

Depends what you wanted, if you want a specialist finisher, Shevchenko has to be the man but if you are looking for a forward who can score but can also create, Henry. Given the choice though, I would prefer Shevchenko - but only JUST because he is a great goalscorer and a scorer of great goals but isn't afraid to score scrappy ones, whereas Henry tries for the perfect goal and isn't selfish enough but both are top class.

The obvious choices are the likes of Henry and Rooney I think they are amongst the best players in the World, but I have always thought a striker is someone who just scores goals and all different kinds of goals but mainly in the box so I'll go for Van the man!
