BTW - this was done while I was gone! I was notified that they would be in my apartment but did not know what day. My manager seems to think this doesn't violate my lease or threaten my security b/c I live on the second floor. A short balcany is really going to keep someone out?

I think the only thing you can do is to ask him not to do it again. And as far as your "rights" they would probably tell you if you don't like it to move out. Sucks, huh. Your concerned about your safety and there's not to much you can do!!1

Did an intruder or animal actually come in? If not I think all you have is the right to remind him to close it in future as you have suffered no actual loss or damage. It's simply not worth raising your blood pressure over - try to keep a sense of proportion... it's only a door!

If you have suffered loss or damage then you should sue him for the monetary value of the loss of damage.

Depends, did an intruder or animal actually get in? If not you're a typical sue happy American looking for any lame excuse to get your hands on some easy money.

Your rights are to ask your manager to close the patio door. If you or your possessions suffered no harm, let it go.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

did they tell you that is why they left it open , that seems a little strange , or are you just overreacting and they made a simple mistake by not closing the door

in most cases you may have to prove it. consider talking to your apartment manager and let him know what he did b-cuz he may not be aware of his or her action.

You have the right to close it back...

what do you mean, what are your rights? Just tell him to please leave it closed, unless he has a specific reason for doing it...
