America's Civil War was fought over slavery, for the most part -- other issues played a part (such as states' rights) but most people believe slavery was the "central issue."

If, God forbid, there were another Civil War dividing America, what do you think would be the central or most prominent issue?

Terrorism/War in Middle East?
Immigration?
Racial Division?
Homosexuality/Gay Marriage?
Evolution vs. Intelligent Design?
Church and State Separation?
Other...??

States rights was the primary issue in the Civil War. Civil war is not even a good term, since the states had seceded and were no longer part of the country.

If there is another war between the states, it will be for the same reason: freedom. There are those people that want to oppress us (social security, social medicine, salary controls, business regulations, gun laws, etc.) Then there are those that want the freedom to control our own money, health, retirment, business, guns, etc.

It's all about freedom. Always has been, always will be. If you favor the government, then you favor oppression.

Economics, not slavery was the issue in the Civil war, no matter what you think you were taught. Slavery was a side issue!

There won't be another civil war as the mans too strong!

If their were to be one, it will be a conflict created by the chasm between the 10% who own 90% of the wealth and are getting tax cuts, and the middle class who are joining the ranks of those in poverty!

The ACLU is not against Christians! They represent the poor where others have violated the Constitution, especially between church and state, where I guess you think churches should run governments and the lives of people you don't represent! The church has no place in politics and a very minority of them are pissing a lot of people off when you try and play God, which God never gave you any authority to do!

Go to church and leave me alone! I don't care about your religious beliefs! They are too divisive and out in Never-Never Land

It is going to be a civil war of the political parties. It is going to be the Democrats versus the Republicans. They disagree on very important issues just because of the party that is backing them up, that is not real politics. We will seperate the entire nation due to silly, yet important differences. If our leaders could be independent and say what they beleive then there would probably never be another American Civil War.

The next civil war will happen when the government decides to once again give amnesty to people who break our laws and bring our country down. We are sick and tired of paying for people who come here and suck up the overly-generous services meant for our citizens.

The simple solution is to make the overly-generous programs go away so that those that come here will actually have to contribute to our society if they want to survive. No more freebies because you got knocked up. We'll give you food and shelter, but it will be EARNED, and it will not be the luxurious program it is now - no apartment to yourself, no spending cash so you can do your nails and hair, no cable TV, nothing except food and shelter. If you want a better life, earn it like the rest of us do!

It will never happen.

Civil wars require decisive responses to issues. Americans whine about public policy, but there are very few who are willing to get their hands dirty in a civil war.

Most likely it would be fought over those who have $, and those that are poor.

Income inequality is getting out of hand, and the disparities too great...this coming from someone in the top 1% net worth.
