I thought people would have voted for Colin Powell. In my opinion, I don't think Colin wanted the job because it would be a losing proposition. The black community would want too much from him in the way of changes that he wouldn't be able to provide.
Racism is alive and well in the black community and there are those waiting in the wings to grind an axe or two. I have seen it happen here in New Orleans over the last three decades. They cut off their noses to spite their face. Of course it's still the white man's fault. What B.S.
I think by the time a creditable black person steps up to the platform (like a Colin Powell) there will be too many mexicans in this country to vote such a person down.

When we have a candidate that is good enough to be president and he or she happens to be black then MAYBE. But it is not likely. We might see a woman president in our time (emphasis on MIGHT SEE). For some odd reason, there are only white, protestant presidents elected. JFK was the exception, and look what happened to him. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but do you really think that we the people elect the president? HA!

Funny you should ask but according to the famous syndicated columnist Jack Anderson, that first reported on the watergate scandal under Nixon,we may have already had one. It was reported by him in his column around 1988 in the New Jersey Star ledger that "some papers were floating around the National archives (in washington) that the mother of Dwight David Eisenhower was a black woman from virginia .The same article said what does he have in common with Ludwig v Beethoven and the answer he said is that both of their mothers were black.

I guess when there is a qualified candidate that the US people back and support. I don't think that race sex or religion should be an issue in the presidency or any other job.
If the right candidate were presented, I would vote for them regardless of their race or sex.

I would love to have seen Colon Powell when a presidency. He declined to run, for personal reasons, which is respectable. I feel Connie Rice is sharp as hell and not only is she black of skin, but she is a woman! Who knows? I hope she continues to excel at whatever she does!

Probably before they elect a woman president or maybe it'll be a black woman president- wonder if Oprah would be interested. LOL.

I feel sure that we will within the next thirty years. Blacks have come a long way in this country in spite of Quanell X and Jessie Jackson. Let us hope that it will be one of our own and not someone friom the Mideast
