Funny you should ask, I just watched baby story yesterday and I always thought it wasn't a good idea to use to induce labor. People will tell you all the time walking and sex...but both are tiring when you are 9 months pregnant and ready to pop.
Back to the show...the lady was ready (pregnant with third child) and said she was going to make her normal inducing drink. It included 2 tablespoons of castor oil, a scoop of vanilla ice cream , and 6 oz of orange juice (it sounded yummy..lol). She said she first felt as if she had to go to the bathroom then got a hint of diarrhea, but it was worth it she started having contractions. She had been on 1 cm dialated and by the time she arrived at the hospital she was 7. Labor was kinda quick and baby came out with only 3 pushes.
I've never tried it, but I would seriously consider it after seeing this show. I had my second one induced at the hospital.

I tried it, and it sent me to the bathroom within the hour. But it did not send me into labor ... and I was 38 weeks.
It may or may not work. The castor oil stimulates the bowels, which are right up under the uterus as you get bigger. These contractions in turn stimulate your uterus to contract. It could possibly send you in to a very fast labor, and it will definitely send you to the bathroom. However, there are many negative points to trying this, one of the most important being that the castor oil which like everything else that you ingest is passed through the uterus, it could cause your baby to pass meconium, which if ingested by the baby could cause respiratory problems.
You could always try it, but a rue of thumb when trying to induce labor is this -- if your body/baby isn't ready, no *non-medical* methods are going to work!
Good luck!

Hmmm....depends on what you consider personal experience...
My mother used castor oil to induce labor when I was born (one week before due date). According to the stories I have heard, she walked, then took another dose, etc., until her labor started, and then her labor progressed very quickly. I was over eight pounds when I was born and did not have any ill effects due to the process.
Don't know if this information is what you are looking for, but I hope it helps. Best of luck!

A girl I worked with did that. She even did it 3 weeks before her due date.
I wouldn't recommend it though. It could just make you really sick and not induce labor at all. I've known a few women this has happened to. I dont think its a good idea for your baby either.

You will crap your guts out! But it can stimulate contractions BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE READY! If you aren't then you just crapped your guts out for no reason and labor won't start, LOL.
It did work for one of my births though. Try nipple stimulation first. walk a bunch. Walk the mall, walk stairs, have sex, do all these frist before doing more drastic measures.

It will send you into labor so fast that you may have a very difficult time controlling your pain level. There is also a higher risk that your baby will come out so fast that if the cord is wrapped around his neck, it my snap his neck or suffocate him. Not an easy way to start a new life. Don't do it, girl. Let nature take it's course.
