a root canal done by an inexperienced dentist. it took her about 15 very painful tries to get a numbing shot into the nerve inside the tooth. i was literally crying (as an adult) by the time another, more experienced, dentist came in to finish the job.

The worst experience I have ever had in a dentists chair was, having a wisdom tooth pulled without any novocaine. I was 4 months pregnant and the dentist did not want to take the chance of medication crossing the placenta. OUCH!

I've had 2 bad experiences;

1. The dentist injected the anaesthetic into my artery instead of my gums. It felt like my heart was jumping out of my chest and I nearly fainted!

2. The dentist wore latex gloves even though I had already told her I was allergic. My lips and throat swelled up.

I swear all dentists are trying to kill me. To make it worse, I've got to go to the hospital next week to have a tooth out. Aargh!

To me, honey, all of them are bad experiences. Not only that, afterwards my teeth are so sensitive, that they ache for days. My worst, I would have to say, happened when I was in boot camp.

I had seen my dentist right before I left. Those military dentists said I had four teeth that needed to be filled. They clamped me down (no lie), put this rubber thingy in my mouth to go around the teeth, and these wedge things to keep my mouth open. I cried and cried the whole visit. Now, I avoid a dentist like the plague unless I have to go. Speaking of having to go, I have to get my crown put in tomorrow. Grrr....

oh thats an easy one... friday, july 29, 2005, a day i will never forget, i went into a dentists office in casa grande, arizona. i needed to have a tooth pulled. the dentist came in and shot my mouth full of novicaine then grabbed the pliers and jerked the tooth. all this happened within about 2 minutes. after peeling myself out of the back of the chair i asked him why he didnt wait for the novacaine to numb my mouth. he said "its lunchtime and i'm hungry, the tooth is out, go home" of course i had to reply with "then why did you bother giving me the shots in the first place you could have saved us both some time and me some extra pain!" he just walked out of the room.

Really creepy dentist! I broke a tooth in pregnancy. We were all alone in the office. No clinician, nothing. I tried to talk when he had a wedge in place to hold my mouth open and he said, "Shut up!" I kept thinking he could drill into my grey matter and no one would be there to help me or hear me scream! I was never so glad to get out of a place. I NEVER returned to that dentist.

When I was pretty young the dentist didn't bother to give me an injection claiming it wasn't worth it as it was only a baby filling. I shot through the roof when he hit a nerve.

When I was a little girl, I used to have a dentist who smoked cigars and drank. This was before they used rubber gloves, so he'd stick his cigar-smelling hands into your mouth, and breathe alcohol in your face. One time, my orthodontist sent me to him to have a tooth pulled. He pulled the wrong one. I told him, as coherently as you can with a mouthful of Novocaine, that he'd pulled the wrong one, and he said, no, no, it was supposed to be the lower. Then he looked at the chart and said, "Well by golly, you're right--it WAS supposed to be an upper. Well, I won't charge you for it." Thank God they were still baby teeth!
