No, the closest the US ever became to being socialist was during the Great Depression/WW II cycle under FDR. Over the years we have become less and less social oriented. If the Conservatives can manage to bring up the standard of living for everyone, and can makes sure the the private sector lifts everyone to their natural capacity, then there will be no mass backlash towards a more socialist agenda. If, however, things keep going as they have under Bush these past 6.5 years, then eventually there will be a mass movement towards the socialist agenda. With the conservatives in power today, they have 2 more years to prove that their way works. Thus far I am not sure they have. However, there is still time to repair the damage. It really is in your hands.

Socialism is a possible future for America. As with most other things, the trick is applying it properly.

Are you calling Hillary a socialist or are you calling me a socialist?

First, I am a Democrat with slight libertarian leanings.

Second, the only person who could be on the Democratic ticket that I would not vote for is Hillary Clinton, so I don't think if she runs as a socialist my mind would change.

Lastly, yes we are already becoming a socialistic society. But as we shift we will fail and who knows what will happen. I have lived many years of my life in socialist countries and there is only one problem with America moving that way...we are not patient enough to be socialists!!! It's OK for someone else to wait three months for cancer treatment but not me.

I believe it was Alexander Hamilton who said, a democracy can only exist until the people realize that they can vote open the doors of the treasury.

It will never happen. Wouldn't it be great if we had a real democracy where people could sit down and negotiate by taking the best ideas of all political ideologies and combine them into a government we could all be proud of? Why does it have to be one form or the other? Doesn’t it bother any of you that most politicians and most political appointees get treated much better in terms of pay and benefits then you do? Is it so horrible to think that everyone should have quality health care and be able to retire at a reasonable age? We all know that most politicians are not honest and they give their cronies great jobs “just because.” Are we really that blind to the people that we employ in government? Sh*t, people we are paying the bill.

I sure as hell hope it is not in America's future! There is no way I would ever support socialism in this country....I would fight and die too keep it from taking control in this great nation....And as for voting for Hillary Clinton..... hell would freeze over before I would vote or give her any recognition.

It would be a very very bad deal for America if she ever seized power by taking the presidency!

Lots of people would vote for Hillary -- as democrat, as demogogue, as whatever.

I wouldn't. The gal is a crook. Look at her record: ripping off all the people in the Whitewater scam, stealing furnishings from the White House, taking her EIGHT MILLION DOLLAR advance on her autobiography weeks before she entered the Senate (after she entered, it would have been illegal).

The gal is definitely rotten to the core.

But that sort of thing doesn't matter to committed dems.

Well, I would say that socialism is alive and well in this country with such institutions like Social Security, welfare, food stamps, etc. existing for decades. Although not a socialist country, we have elements of socialism throughout the nation both on a federal and state level.

The ONLY thing I would vote for Hillary as is Drag Queen. Wouldn't even make a good one of those. Why, did she out herself and admit it?

Where have YOU been?
You're living under it.

Socialism re-distributes wealth.
It would take all day to count the ways.

Our modern day Robin Hoods are equal opportunity thieves and keep as much as possible for themselves, and those who carry the most votes.
