Hmmm. I'm a little unsure on what exactly "it" is, but we'll go with a home away from home, perhaps?!? I call our second home in the Ozarks "The Cabin." I spend most of my time in Wisconsin though. Hope this helps your theory! Good luck! Will you tell us what the theory was once you're done conducting this survey? I'm a tad curious...

I am from Louisiana, USA...
a cottage is something elves live in
a cabin is a place you go to when you vacation in the mountains
a camp is a place where hunters stay when they go hunting overnight.

I consider a cottage a nicer accomadation with ammenities. A cabin to me is similar but more rustic. And to me setting up camp means you are roughing it - as in camping----- yuck.
