I've heard there are many perspectives to attack a dream with, as either a complete compilation of your imagination, or possibly your inner wants and cravings that arent socially acceptable etc. I want to know which would be the closest to the truth. There are always dreams that seem both ways, so I dont want to just follow what one person says and disregard something that could mean a lot.

Actually, psychologists aren't even sure that dreams mean anything. I took a psychology course this summer, and there's one opinion that dreams could just be your brain's interpretation of how things are going in your life or how your day went.

You see, when you go through REM throughout the night (Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep), your brain no longer receives messages from the rest of your body. It basically cuts itself off from the rest of your body during this stage, so it is no longer bombarded by the constant messages that every part of your body sends to your brain throughout the day. Therefore, it is only concentrated on itself while you are in REM sleep, and dreams are thought to be the interpretation of your brain's processes during this time.

Yes, there are the theories that your brain tries to communicate what could happen in the future or how to fix things and blah blah blah... but I think these theories make about as much sense as relying on planets and stars for the future (astrology).

When I translate a dream with these guidelines I am never wrong.
* The dream is always about the dreamer. If there is a person in the dream it is YOU reflecting an aspect of yourself - Rarely, if ever, is it about the other person.
* Water, even ice, is always about emotions, your emotions
* Children & babies, pregnancy; are always about new ideas, dreams, goals & their varrious stages of development.
* Door ways or windows are about new conciousness, ideas or ways of living. They can represent levels of awarenss on spiritual levels.

There are a lot of things to take in when intrupreting dreams but if you do not use your intuition you will likely not ever be good at it. Intuition is a conscious muscle - use it!! NO ONES intrupretation should over-ride your own gut level feelings. !!!!

To be honest when it com to dream interpretation the best information I could give you is to look at the dreams from both cognitive theories and invest some time in the the developmental understanding that dream interpretation is not set in stone it is that interpretation that helps you to better understand your own dream state the best text I could recommend from a professional standpoint is called hypnogogic dreaming and the lucid theories that follow. The text should be of extreme use to you.

as a Muslim we can't interpret dreams as we wish.there are special people who can do this out of their long experiences. however , what i do know is that once you have dreamed a bad one then you shouldn't tell anyone about it so that it won't come true. i also know that a dream can be one of three: a vision from God which is great, a nightmare from the devil or a dream that reflects what you have been thinking about during the day.
