depends on the type of frog, but wood frogs can withstand freezing quite well and will go domant if temperature drops below 5 centigrate. Then you can work on it, but keep it on ice.

this wont completely anethetize the frog but when I was younger I had a science fair experiment that I used frogs in (non-harming environment type). If the frog is sitting looking at you and you take your pointer finger and spiral it around closer and closer to him/her until it actually hypnotizes the frog. you can touch his 'nose' and even flip it over but then it does wake up again. just kind of a fun thing.

I believe you can place the frog on its back and rub its underside for a few minutes and it will get knocked out for a bit due to lack of blood flow to its brain.

if non poisonous, rub the body part you would like to anesthetize for at least ten minutes with a little bit of pressure.
