On the run is correct. In fact, it's actually spelled "on the lam" - as read in a local newspaper here reporting on the CEO of an office I work for. Nice, huh?

The correct term is "on the lam" and it means to be hidding from someone be it a creditor , an enemy and often the law. Not a good situation to be in.
