I do not believe there is a "growing inequity" in incomes. But if I did some important factors would be hard work, ethical and moral responsibility, and ability to adept. I fail to see any reasonable argument for income equity. I move from state to state to better my situation, I continue my education to better my situation, I sacrificed things earlier in life to enjoy what I have now. I worked very hard to reach the income level I'm at, how is it fair for someone who has done nothing to receive the same pay as myself. It is not, period.

An entire book could be written on the basis of your question.

The biggest factors in my mind are essentially globalization, global competition, and capitalism. I am unsure as to how much blame to put on these factors, but they are the cause. Even though I do quite well off of our society, I am far more in favor of taking action to counter the inequalities which are growing.

First, it is morally wrong to continue down this path. Second, it could lead to a revolution, and not the gentle kind. If not revolution, then fascism and fanaticism. The signs are all around us.

The major argument for income equality is that people deserve to be treated equally. Unfortunately, it has been pr oven that if you are given the same reward for doing efficient, difficult work, as doing shoddy, easy work...on average, the result will be poor. Then you can't compete in the global economy blah blah...

It is a difficult conundrum, and a balanced approach to the problem must be found.

Pathetically low minimum wages; lack of education and affordable educational opportunities; lack of healthcare; growing debt and interest rates; (which affect the poorest among us most of all) sub-standard housing, and unaffordable childcare for working mothers. Also, the glamorization of drugs and gang warfare via modern pop culture, which tends to perpetuate an "Us and Them' mentality. Most importantly, I think, is a lack of HOPE among many people stuck on lower income rungs: An inability to believe that anything will ever get better....

These are just a few of the factors contributing to the Great Divide in our society.

As the size and power of government grows, so does inequality.

There is no case for income equality. That can only be achieved through force.

There will never be income equality. Not everybody has the same skills, education, motivation, or just pure, plan dumb luck to make BIG bucks. It is more that people need to learn to live within their income and not fall for all the Madison Ave. hype. NOBODY NEEDS $400.00 sneakers, $1,200.00 jeans or $150.00 / lb coffee. Unfortunately, some with the least amount think they do.

Higher taxes are definitely playing a part in the amount of money that I bring home every two weeks. Education expectations are rising but the payback on them is decreasing. It's very frustrating!
