That is not good. Fragile X is a serious disorder that causes different degrees of mental retardation. Even if the father is "high functioning" he still has some degree of MR. Since this is an X linked disorder, it would only be passed to a child if he has a girl, since that would mean he passed on his X chromosome. If he has a boy, that means he gave a Y chromosome and the child would not have Fragile X.

Well honestly everything you have pass's to your kids. Its just a matter of whether or not the body shows it more than the parents. Such as Dwarfs pass down that gene to their children, but not all children of Dwarfs are themselves Dwarfs.
So its really just a waiting game to see if the child gets it more seviere or not. Though there are many things that doctors test for in prenatle exams. But I am not sure if that is one of them or not. Ask your doctor.

concern not your grandchild is risk-free, so a strategies as transmitting it to their toddlers: women persons have 2 X chromosomes and to that end have double the possibility of having a working FMR1 allele. women persons donning one X chromosome with an prolonged FMR1 gene could have some warning signs of the ailment or be typical. adult males with the delicate X can not transmit it to any of their sons (considering that adult males make a contribution a Y chromosome, not an X, to their male offspring.)
