Yes. He needs to get counseling and the habit of physical violence against you is too strong to overcome without serious counseling. He may KILL YOU if you don't stop him from his violence against you, and the only way to immediately stop him is to get away from him. This is the same advice whether you are a woman or a man.

Also, it's advised that you get the abuse recorded by the police. This is needed should you decide to go for a divorce in some of our states in the U.S., especially if children and/or property are involved. It is only through proper police records that you can protect your property rights, as well as your custody rights and the rights of your children, if you have children.

Perhaps, after he enters counseling and develops a PROVEN track record of TOTAL improvement, you may consider staying with him, but this is rare since (1) most people never really improve and/or (2) you WILL find that, by moving on, there is a SANE way of living, acting, and reacting with others.

ALSO: Get counseling for yourself because:

(1) it's not easy to get over being physically abused, and

(2) You must be sure that you are NOT in the habit of enabling others to mistreat you, and

(3) Once you are "clear" of any enabling habits, your life will be so much more rewarding.

I know all this because I moved on from others in my life who were abusive, there is no one in my life that is abusive, I stand up for myself, immediately, when anyone attempts abuse, and my life is very rewarding.
