Technically it is not, A 100% increase is 2x the value. However, the expression is often incorrectly used when large values are involved. If a 100% increase means the doubling of value (which it does), what does 200% increase mean? The same thing? no!. In general only the following is accurate:

percent increase = 100 * (final value - initial value)/initial value

If percent increase = 300, then

(final value - initial value) = 3 * initial value

final value = 3 * initial value + initial value = 4 * initial value.

People are confusing how much a 300% increase is with the final figure resulting from a 300% increase. So yes, 300% of something is the same as 3X something - that is the amount of the increase. But to get the the final result of a 300% increase you must add back in the original number. So while the amount of a 300% increase is 3X the original amount, the resulting number is FOUR times the original number. A 300% increase of 100 is 300. if you increase 100 by 300% the result will be 400.

As an example, a 300% increase if you started with 5 would yield 20 so a simple way of getting that answer is to multiply by 4.

It depends on whether you mean an increase of 3x, in which case the answer to your question is Yes ... or you mean an increase that results in the quantity being 3 times as great as it originally was -in which case the answer is No, for reasons given above by those who answered No.

Move the decimal over two places and multiply by that number to find a percentage. 300%=3.00 X the number. So yes.
