I don't want obscene pictures to ever come up on the screen or
any adds that show people without proper clothing on their bodies.
I also do not want pop-ups to filter through that have rude language or pornographic scenes. I want to keep our experiences
on the computer fun and clean minded.

There are a number of different software tools available, such at NetNanny that you can subscribe to. The price is minor if you really want to protect your child.

There are also some settings on your computer, depending on what OS youre running there are also some filters you can set on your system. NetNanny would probably be better however.

you'd have to monitor their activities personally while they are online.

while there are programs out there that can prevent them from getting to certain areas such as netnanny - there are 100 fold more ways to get around it. If you think you're kids are going to want to get to these areas - don't waste your money, they will get there - very very easily.

If you believe your kids have no intention of going to these areas and you don't want something to come up "unexpectedly" then get a popup blocker such as yahoo toolbar, and software such as netnanny - for your 'piece of mind' then so be it. But, if your kids are this good - they won't go there anyway and you won't need this.

The best way is to keep them off the Internet. They won't die if they aren't on it... my daughters discovered the joy of REAL hobbies and meeting friends IN PERSON when the family computer died and I didn't replace it.

There is no way... if that's what you want then just keep your computer shut off...

They are KIDS and kids will find a way to watch the smut that is on the internet and, no matter what you do... they will find a way to see it if that is what they want to do.
