I'm looking for your thoughts on Baby sleepbags / growbags. Would you recommend them. Do they help keep baby at a better temperature. Are you for or against them. And, finally, do you still need to use feet to foot sleeping position? I'm assuming not.

Thoughs and opinions please.

Sleepbags are a mother's dream! There's no way baby can wiggle out of them, so they keep baby warm no matter what baby does in her sleep (I know my mother would have died in heaven when I was an infant if she would have had these back then. I was known for kicking my blankets off of me during the night...normally not a concern...except when you take into account the fact that I was born in Montana and lived in a trailer house for the first 2 years of my life. The house was heated, but that only works so well when it's 20 and 30 below. Not even the thickest blanket sleepers kept me very warm (my mom eventually put me in 2 blanket sleepers every night to keep me warm enough)). You don't have to worry about coming in to baby with a blanket up over her face (some will actually pull blankets over their faces while they sleep). As far as the temperature thing goes, don't mix sleep sacs with really warm blanket-type sleepers...it's more dangerous for a baby to be too warm than a little cold, and the sleepsac will keep her more than warm enough. I don't use any blankets when it's really warm outside, and in the early fall and spring, usually just strip baby down to a onesie with a sleepsac. In the winter, I stick mostly to the terrycloth type sleepers and always use the sleepsacs. Also, it's not necessary to use the feet to foot position, just make sure baby stays on her back.

Sleepers are great. I highly recommend them. It's like wrapping a blanket around the baby which I'm sure the baby enjoys because it keeps them warm and it's also very soft and comfortable.

They are a good marketing item....I never liked them, I just kept baby in gowns and socks when they were really little then in footed sleepers. Babies don't need extra warmth...they are comfortable in the same temp you are.
