and ask this question? WHAT'S DAVID ORTIZ SMOKING? He said he should be the MVP even though the Sox are not making the playoffs. Come on Ortiz, even Sox fans will agree with me he should not get the MVP award (now that the Sox are not going to make it). Also I just read ESPN, and Jeter responded to Ortiz comments. Bad move. If I were Jeter, I won't have replied to Ortiz comments. He would have looked better if he had just kept quiet. What do you guys think?
Look, I want serious adult opinions, not 12 year old fans throwing insults at the other team. We seem to have a lot of those on this site. I am not into insults.

The reason why I said Jeter shouldn't say anything is because I think Ortiz argument is foolish (I wish I could find a better word). You don't respond to foolish argument. You look better if you don't say anything.

Okay, I read the article again, and Jeter didn't say much. But I don't think Ortiz should win it even though Steven brought up a good point. However, the DH argument is getting old. A DH should be able to win it if he deserves it.

ORTIZ TOLD LOCAL REPORTERS THAT HIS WORDS WERE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT AND THAT HE'S HURT BY THE NATIONAL PERCEPTION OF A TWISTED INTERVIEW. SO ENOUGH SAID. I CAN NOW GO BACK TO ENJOYING FOOTBALL GAMES.

If A-Rod can win the MVP while on a 4th place Rangers team, Ortiz should be able to win it for 2nd (or 3rd) place Boston, because without his clutch hits they'd be down with Baltimore and Tampa Bay.
But really, neither Ortiz nor Jeter deserve to be in the top 3. Dye, Morneau, and Johan Santana are the top 3.

and you said you are ....which team's fan. I am just kidding.
I didn't know that Jeter did respond, but yeah a bad move. I don't think that Ortiz should get it even if the Red Sox make the playoffs. The reason would be that Jeter is playing baseball like it should be, not as a DH who get to rest all the time and just comes in to hit. I mean god knows how many errors Ortiz would commit if he was on the field. I really don't like the AL for have the DH position. Jeter should win the MVP, even though he responded to foolish comment coming from a half player.
GO NAT (I know, I know...what can I say other than "NEXT YEAE?")

Even if the Red Sox were still seriously in playoff contention I think Jeter is more deserving of the MVP award simply because he plays both offense and defense. While it doesn't look great that Jeter responded to Ortiz' comments, he still does have the right to respond.

When asked about Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz's grousing about his chances to be the American League MVP, Jeter noted the Yankees still have "something to play for."
In comments published Monday, Ortiz said the Red Sox's free-fall from the AL playoff race should not affect his MVP candidacy with voters, and compared his own performance to Jeter, whose MVP stock rose as the Yankees took command of the AL East. New York led Boston by 10½ games on Tuesday.
"Don't get me wrong -- he's a great player, having a great season, but he's got a lot of guys in that lineup," Ortiz said of Jeter. "Top to bottom, you've got a guy who can hurt you. Come hit in this lineup, see how good you can be."
To that, Jeter replied "I don't have to do it in his lineup."
"I'm not thinking about the MVP right now," he told reporters Monday. "We're thinking about winning a division. We've still got something to play for."
He then added, "No one here's focused on individual awards."
Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon said Ortiz's comments didn't sound like the Big Papi he played with for three seasons in Boston.
"It doesn't sound like Ortiz," Damon told reporters. "I can't believe he would say something like that."
Damon said he thought Ortiz was a "shoo-in" for MVP last season, but lost out to Alex Rodriguez last year because being a DH hurt him with the voters.
What was wrong with what Jeter Said? He is not focused on individual awards!! I personally think he falls just a little short unless men like Dye, and one of the M&M boy's from the twins fall off due to the pressure of the situation. Then by all means, and if Jeter stats fall as well in the last two or three weeks, then give it to Ortiz.

I am thinking Ortiz is letting this club home run record and other things that people are telling him go to his head.
I too am a red sox fan, but they rely on him to much to come up with the clutch hits all the time.
Loretta has done some walk off hits and the new reserve first baseman Pena.(sorry his name escapes me at the moment)
And I totally agree with you about serious opinions on answers , I am getting a little tired of the insults myself
Thanks for you question:)

another Boston pink Sox followers precise indexed right here are bashing others, that's immature, its nevertheless early interior the season, and Teixeria, CC are sluggish starters, A-Rod and ton others on the DL so they simply cant circulate on asserting that the Yankees will omit the play-offs. Oh and Ditto too. BQ - Tim Wakefield were the perfect on the beginning rotation thus far and Ramon Ramirez were lighting fixtures out different than that gopher ball he served as much as Teixeiria.

Steven S is wrong. And they are professional baseball players and can talk about anything they want. A-rod is not the MVP so why even talk about him, and deffinetely Jeter or Morneau is going to win it. And the bosox are done.

I think Jeter responded with class and integrity,He's not into one award for himself. He wants to win it all,, for his teammates and manager. Popi was being very selfish.
