Because, it doesn't have a positive economic impact, and, on the scale that we are currently experiencing it, will have disastrous long term social consequences. Do not take any notice of our Left Wing, Government, TV media, teachers/lecturers etc, Guardian readers and other assorted acolytes. It is the EU's appalling "Human Rights Act" together with the complicity of this Government that are mainly to blame. We are a country of about 62 million people, our public services simply can't cope as it is. The real employment figure is about 5million because 3.5 million are on the benefits register and, even the Government admits, should really be on the unemployment register. You, and many others are being conned.

maybe because all they hear about is the government funding housing and health for immigrants - also some
(and I say only some as it is always the minority that are highlighted)
immigrants want to carry on as they did in their homeland ie have their own education etc

I strongly believe that if immigrants come to the uk they should respect our country and follow our schooling etc after all they made the descision to come to this country.

Boot on the other foot, would other countries in the world be so accomadating to UK people if they wanted/had to live in their country?

No I don't think so.

The majority of immigrants are hard working and do have a positive impact on our economy, but as I have already said, it is the minority that are highlighted and make peoples blood boil.

racism, pure and simple.

Would USA be the heaving metropolis it is without it?

Australia, Canada and various countires (inclduing UK) have done it as an economic neccesity to fill industry gaps and create the brain drain (in fact I do belie ve the USA and other countries practiased enforced immigration/slavery for many years)!

Finally, if you have ever had a dream of settling in another country e.g. OZ, USA, a cottage in France a villa in Spain etc, that's immigration, if you did it would be positive?

Your statement is a misconception. It is misrepresentation of what people are actually saying. Most people do not fear immigration. Most people acknowledge that we are a nation of immigrants. What people do not like is people entering the country illegally. There are 2 main schools of thought on why it is bad. The first is because it is a security issue. The second is because many people believe that the laws should be upheld. Why should illegal aliens be allowed to subvert the process, and go to the front of the line ahead of people who have followed the law, and waited the time required? Further, it is a major issue now because we have illegal aliens protesting in our streets, and calling the law abiding citizens of this country racists when they speak out against it.

It's not so much they fear it but they know Hispanics will do the job the right way and won't complain over it.... They really work so hard and get payed so little but they are so grateful to know they have a job to better themselves and their families. I just hate when people put a tag on others at the end we are what we are and that is HUMANS. So I myself don't fear it I respect those who are trying to better themselves..... By the way why do we called them ALIANS? Do they look like ALIANS to you???? To me they look just like one of us infact some of them are even light skin with color eyes just like anyone born here so I just don't get all this nonsense.....

Its illegal immigration people fear.
We all welcome legit immigration.

Problem is illegals get beneifts that they not only shouldnt get but are unfairly obtaining.

They dont pay taxs or SS, & anybody who says so is lieing.
IRS says that there zero illegals paying taxes (my cousin is a IRS employee who has that kind of access).

Any taxes/ss that is collected is being kept by the employer who is hiring illegals (be it the church or other).

There is no value to having illegals here...
The jobs they do, americans would be willing to do.
And in many cases are doing until illegals come along and take it.

People don't realise that there's a positive economic benefit, and if they are told that it's true, they'll not believe it in many cases. The reactionary opinion-giving of the red-top papers make people think that they don't need to think.

People fear immigration because they fear people who are different then they are and they don't want their lives or environments to change. It's not about jobs, because people from one state don't complain when people from another migrate there (which happened after the New Orleans catastrophe). It's sad to think people are so afraid of other customs or cultures, when the people in the U.S. are actually a mixture of several European cultures (British, Jewish, Italian, African, etc)...

i don't believe people fear immigration .. it's more that the immigrants expect us to assimilate to THEIR language and beliefs instead of them assimilating to the English language and way of life.

if i want to go live in France ~ shouldn't i expect to live their culture and with their language? should i demand that English be spoken as a second language? of course not.

and i believe people get frustrated because immigrants want benefits like social security, health insurance, medicare ... but at whose cost? yours and mine. we pay the taxes ... they don't because they don't want to give up their heritage and become a US citizen.

they want all of the privileges of living in this country ... (work, buy a home, have credit) but not have to be obligated to the country.

Immigration is good, when those who are immigrating are coming to this country legally and paying our taxes and contributing to our great nation and spending their money here and fueling our economy, not their old one. To be here illegally and working means everything is under the table, no taxes are paid on their income, which goes right on back to mexico, its a drain on our economy and we are constantly losing millions of dollars to it. Ive no problem with mexicans, but i have a huge problem with illegals, be they mexican or canadian, or europeans. So people fear our country being taken over by a race of illegals who want to take back texas new mexico etc, and btw cant speak english, porrly educated....you get it.
