When they say they are Libertarian, not Republican, despite all of their Republican-sounding rhetoric, do you believe they actually go out and vote for the Libertarian candidates?

Or are they ashamed of being Republicans now that their party has destroyed all of its credibility?

They refer to themselves as "libertarians" so that people might mistake them for people who oppose government invasiveness into American citizens' personal lives, who oppose bigger government, and who oppose censorship.

The real libertarians I know aren't fooled.

The same reason many Christians refer to themselves as Jews. They don't. Republican is a political party, not a political philosophy.
But many ex-Republicans and many conservatives belong to the Libertarian party. Just like many ex-Democrats and many liberals do.

The core concepts of the Libertarian party are small government and sensible fiscal policies (which used to be part of the Republican platform decades ago), and strong civil liberties and personal freedoms (which were part of the Democratic platform long ago).

As each of the two major parties became more polarized, many of the moderates left for more Libertarian (or Greener) pastures. If you want to know what the Libertarian platform and goals are, check out their website.

Republicans used to be very similar, in their conservatism, until the religious right got ahold of them. Now, conservatives are going over to the true conservative party. As for Shiraz, he makes no sense, and he isn't a libertarian...

the republicans still believe in taxation and corporate welfare social security and other tax funded social programs.

we libertarians believe in the absence of tax and non interference with other nations government.

we also believe in self deterimination and abolishing the drug laws.

most Libertarians do not believe in a strong national defense or the draft, I do.

Libertarians are true conservatives and the republicans are actually conservative socialists compared to democrats who are radical socialists

and i think heidi is not a libertarian, she has many socialist views and opinions.
