Works for me.
Giving thanks to God is a good idea too.

Actually, the pilgrims didn't escape socialism. Most of the people on board the Mayflower were moving to America for land and opportuniy. Of all the passenger, about 30 of them moved to America to get away from religious persecution (They were seperatists of the Church of England). Thanksgiving was in celebration establishing a relationship/allie with the Pokanoket Tribe. The chief, Massasoit, signed a treaty with the pilgrims stating that the indians would assist the pilgrims by supplying them with essential food in return for protection from the Narragansett tribe. Didn't anoyone pay attention in American History?

I have heard this before, specifically about ten years ago there was a major editorial article in the Wall Street Journal. The proof for this theory is that, for the first couple of years when the entire community lived in a fortified camp the people almost starved; however, several years later when they pushed out from the plot they had accepted from the Indians and seized more territory and divided it into separate farms the people prospered. There are actually some very glaring holes in this theory, however.
1-The 'first Thanksgiving' was held while the community was still living in the fortified camp. The extension into separate farms would not occur for another few years.
2-The primary reason why the Pilgrims starved in the first couple of years is because they were religious separatists who had lived in cities, NONE of them were actually farmers (remember the famous story where Squanto teaches them to plant corn?). In the plan for the colony, they were not going to rely on agriculture at all, but instead they were going to get rich by fishing and then exchanging the salted cod fish back to England for food grown in Europe, as well as becoming tycoons in the fur trade. This did not pan out because, again, NONE of them had ever fished before and they did not bring any proper fishing equipment, nor were any of them experienced trappers.
3-The Pilgrims were extremely religious people. I find it hard to believe that they would happily sabotage the colony's food stocks by not working and then watch their own children starve just so their lazy neighbors' children would not be saved from starving. That sounds a little more callous than even a jaded conservative could imagine doing.
I don't mean to be unkind, but a lot of your 'questions' seem to be poorly thought-out attempts at hurting peoples' feelings. Perhaps you have noticed that there are a LOT of people who use this service for just that sort of thing. Do we really need more people like that?

It was a celebration of overcoming differences, and learning how to survive (from the indigenous people) through the tough, new world winters. Get it right.
Working together? Just about as socialist as you can get...
